Advocate, Educator, Entrepreneur, and Mother Committed to Every Child’s Success .
Niah Spriggs is a devoted mother, wife, educator, entrepreneur, and advocate with a passion for ensuring all children have access to a high-quality education. She is running to be the next Oklahoma City Public School Board Chair, bringing her unique perspective as a mother, educator, and business leader to serve all OKCPS students. Born and raised in Oklahoma City, Niah grew up in a loving home with her parents and two sisters. She attended Oklahoma City Public Schools before graduating from Millwood High School.
As a first-generation college student, Niah, like many others in the district, faced challenges but persevered through hard work and determination. She worked multiple jobs to finance her education and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a focus on Finance and Taxation from the University of Houston. Niah’s dedication to learning continued with an MBA in Finance, a Master’s in Urban Education, and advanced coursework toward a Ph.D. in Psychology.
While attending the University of Houston, Niah met her husband, Marcus Spriggs, an NFL draftee in 1996. Together, they have been married for over 20 years and are proud parents to five children.
A Journey of Service and Leadership
Niah began her career in finance, working for institutions like Wells Fargo and Citibank and eventually becoming an auditor on Wall Street. Niah took this business acumen and later went on to start several successful business in Oklahoma City.
While raising her children, Niah felt a calling to give back to her community. Volunteering in schools, she supported teachers and helped students in need of additional support, discovering her talent for teaching—particularly math. Inspired by her experiences, she earned teaching certifications in Special Education and Secondary Math Education as well as Business and Computer Education, embarking on a career as a public school teacher. She taught in both Oklahoma City, Millwood Public Schools and in Houston, Texas. Her time in Texas really made her believe the possibilities of public urban education; where her effort as a teacher contributed to a remarkable 75% pass rate among all math students school wide.
Innovative Solutions for Education
Niah’s entrepreneurial spirit, shaped by her parents, led her to explore new ways to address challenges in education. Motivated by her experiences as an educator and the parent of a child with learning disabilities, she founded a micro- school in Oklahoma City. Her school emphasizes mastery in reading and math, fostering success for all students, regardless of their abilities. The innovative curriculum has achieved significant improvements in student outcomes, demonstrating her commitment to transformative education.
In addition to her educational work, Niah has extensive experience managing businesses, working with government entities, and navigating complex contracts and permitting processes.
